Oscar wrapped up his time in the Chinese Super League with a season to remember – statistically, creatively, and now, officially. After a dominant 2024 campaign with Shanghai Port, he was awarded the Sofascore Player of the Season trophy as the highest-rated player in the Chinese league. He finished his amazing season with the Sofascore Rating of 8.60.
But he didn’t receive the trophy in Shanghai—he received it at home in Brazil, where his next chapter is already underway.

The trophy recognizes his outstanding form in 2024, which included 14 goals, 20 assists, and a key role in securing Shanghai Port’s third league title during his time at the club. It was the highest Sofascore rating Oscar had ever recorded in China – and a well-deserved goodbye after eight remarkable years.
“2024 was a special year – I broke the assist record, scored a lot of goals, and it was my highest Sofascore rating during my time in China. So yes, it was a very special year for me.”

Delivered in Brazil, powered by history
The trophy Oscar received isn’t just a stat-backed prize. It’s part of Sofascore’s redesigned Player of the Season trophy, launched as part of the Field of Dreams initiative. Co-created with football legend Zico, each trophy contains elements from a real renovated football pitch in Brazil—representing a return to football’s roots.

While many Sofascore Player of the Season trophies are handed out in the European off-season, Oscar’s is a reminder that leagues wrapping up at the end of the calendar year are just as closely followed and recognized.
“It’s important to stay in the spotlight, even when you’re far away,” Oscar said.
“I was in China all this time, and it was very important for me to stay in shape and keep playing well. It shows how good you are, how creative, because my role is to be creative and help the team. That’s what I’ve always done, it’s what I enjoy: helping the team.”

From stats to recognition
Oscar’s consistency stood out. Across 29 appearances in 2024, he delivered elite numbers – and his Sofascore rating of 8.60 reflected it. But as he pointed out, the real meaning lies in the connection between performance and purpose.

“Then you see your Sofascore rating, always high, and being champion for three consecutive years, winning titles with Shanghai… It shows not only the ratings, but also the trophies.
And whoever watched the matches, the plays, the way I was performing, could see that I was in good shape and playing well. That made me really happy and motivated to keep going.”

One trophy closes a chapter, another begins
With his time in China complete, Oscar has returned to his boyhood club, São Paulo FC, where he’s already focused on what’s next.

“These ratings might look ‘easy,’ but it’s not easy to maintain that level for so long. I hope to keep performing well here in Brazil too, to keep earning high ratings, helping the team, winning matches and titles. That’s what I hope to achieve here in São Paulo as well.”
His story is a perfect example of what the Sofascore Player of the Season trophy is designed to celebrate: talent, consistency, and dedication over time.

And while Oscar received his trophy in Brazil, it was also part of a much larger moment: the official presentation of the redesigned trophy at the Sunset Sports Festival. You can read more about the Sunset event here, where football legends and rising stars came together to celebrate data, performance, and the players who make it all look easy.

More than one spotlight
While Oscar was the headline name, he wasn’t the only one displaying his Sofascore Player of the Season trophy at the end of 2024. In K League 2, Bruno Lamas stood out as the highest-rated player of the season. Playing for Busan IPark, he finished the season with the Sofascore Rating of 7.52, earning his award through consistent performances in South Korea’s second tier.

His recognition further highlights Sofascore’s commitment to celebrating excellence in every league we cover, not just the biggest, but the best in terms of performance.
