Olumo Super Liga from Nigeria is Transforming Local Football with Sofascore Editor

Football is the heartbeat of communities around the world, and in Nigeria, it’s no different. While the global game often highlights elite leagues with vast resources, grassroots football is where raw talent emerges. One league proving that even small, privately run tournaments can benefit from digital transformation is the Olumo Super Liga, based in Abeokuta City, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Despite limited financial backing and modest playing conditions, the league has embraced Sofascore Editor to bring its matches to a worldwide audience. We spoke with Jewoola Olaosebikan, CEO of JOJ Active Arena Management, about the league’s journey and how digital tools are helping to shape its future.

Olumo Super Liga: A New Era for Abeokuta Football

The Olumo Super Liga was created to provide private football clubs in Abeokuta City with a structured competition. With six teams, including football academies and local league champions, the tournament is already making waves in its first season.

Those clubs are:

For the local community, the league is more than just football—it’s a source of excitement and pride.

“Olumo Super Liga means a lot to Abeokuta. It’s the only league that brings the best local clubs and sports academies together. The people always look forward to match days,”

The Power of Digitalization with Sofascore Editor

In an era where visibility is key, Sofascore Editor has given Olumo Super Liga a global platform. The software allows leagues, no matter their size, to manage their tournaments, provide live updates, and reach millions of fans worldwide.

“With the help of Sofascore Editor, the league has reached millions of people in Ogun State, Nigeria, and even an international audience,” Olaosebikan explains. “It’s the best thing that can happen to the league – branding it and getting massive audiences is only possible with this software.”

Having discovered Sofascore as a longtime user since 2019, Olaosebikan understood the importance of digitalizing the league. The benefits have been immediate:

Growing the Game Despite Challenges

Abeokuta faces infrastructural challenges, with limited football facilities. Some of the league’s matches are played on pitches with poor conditions, yet the focus remains on giving players a chance to showcase their talent.

“We are using the best available venue with natural grass in Abeokuta. The city lacks facilities, and we don’t have the financial power to build or maintain our own grounds,”

Yet, for young footballers, Olumo Super Liga is a stepping stone. “The average age of players in the league is below 22. Creating more tournaments like this is key to helping young talent develop,” he adds.

A Call to Action: The Future of Olumo Super Liga

Despite its success, Olumo Super Liga needs financial support. “The league is privately run, and the six teams are financing it themselves. We are looking for both local and international sponsors to help grow this league,” Olaosebikan appeals.

To tournament organizers still hesitant about digitalization, his message is clear: “If you want the best for your league, Sofascore Editor is the way to go!”

Olumo Super Liga proves that even the smallest leagues can benefit from digital transformation, breaking barriers and bringing football to the world. Because every match counts!
